After a bit of a break, the Kampala Style and Fashion Brunch returned this past Sunday and let’s just say, the comeback was worth the wait. Held at Noni Vie, the event came back with a fresh theme, “Soft Life, Hard Truth” and its usual blend of good vibes, great music, and Kampala’s most stylish crowd.
Now, I’ll be honest. When I saw Brian Ahumuza (aka Abryanz) on Snapchat reminding guests, specifically the ladies, to show up dressed appropriately for brunch, I was curious. This event had built a bit of a reputation for looks that leaned more toward nightclub than daytime chic. So, I was quite eager to see how people would interpret that gentle nudge.
To my surprise, many took it to heart. The looks were still bold and creative, but with a lot more fabric, less skin and elegance this time around. Think bedazzled suits, matching sets, maxi dresses, and clean silhouettes. Guests leaned into a more refined style without losing any of the flair, and it was honestly refreshing to see.
The brunch itself was a lively mix of fashion, sound, and (thanks to Tanqueray) some very sophisticated sipping. As the headline partner, Tanqueray brought the kind of energy you’d expect. The spotlight wasn’t just on the drinks; it was on the whole experience. From the perfectly crafted cocktails to the live mixology session (which involved fire, ice, and some drama), it was clear the goal was to elevate the vibe without stealing the show.
The DJ lineup added to the afternoon’s entertainment with Selector Jay, Lil Stunner, DJ Young Mone, DJ Vee, DJ Jose, and Burundi’s DJ Nicolas Peks keeping the beats coming. Whether guests were dancing or just vibing at their tables, the music never missed.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Kampala Style Brunch without a fashionably late entrance from the host himself. Abryanz arrived in full statement mode: a green pinstripe oversized suit, complete with matching headscarf, bell-bottom pants, and a cropped double-breasted top. It was bold, on-theme, and very much in character.
Speaking at the event, he said, “The Kampala Style and Fashion Brunch is a movement to celebrate individuality and creativity. It’s been nice to see everyone here embrace the ‘Soft Life, Hard Truth’ theme in their way.”
Spotted among the crowd were a few standout guests: Former Miss Uganda Hannah Karema, who kept it chic in a white bedazzled suit; Kampala Crème star Mami Deb, serving drama in an aqua blue bodycon with a side drape and dramatic earrings; and Lydia Jazmine, who kept things playful in a green crochet-detailed matching set.
With its return, the Kampala Style Brunch has once again proven to be a mood, a moment, and a fashion-forward way to spend your Sunday. And judging by the looks this time around, Kampala is officially back to brunching; properly.
