Celebrated television host and events MC Edwin Katamba, popularly known as Mc Kats, has taken to social media to express frustration over what he described as unfair treatment by government officials regarding a Shs1.5 billion payout for MCs.
Kats revealed that he had been invited by a government official for a meeting but was later denied access at the office despite being instructed to report by 10 am. “I have been here for two hours. I am not allowed to cross to the offices because they say I have no appointment,” he lamented, adding that he had left work as early as 5 am to make the meeting.
The entertainer, who has been in the industry for over two decades, accused government of sidelining hardworking Ugandan youth while allocating money to those with political connections. “Now 1.5 billion is taken by your people, not us who work for it. I am 40 years old, I have been entertaining people for that long. You guys have just gotten jobs recently through technical know-who,” he fumed.
Kats claimed that the funds in question had been earmarked for political talk show hosts, but said he found no clarity even after consulting journalists like Canary Mugume. “That’s where Bobi Wine wins. He may not give money, but he gives hope,” Kats remarked, contrasting the government with the opposition leader.
He appealed directly to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to intervene and ensure that at least MCs in the central region and Mbarara benefit from such allocations. “I am not here because I am broke. I am not rich, but I am not broke. But I know MCs who are suffering. We work for our names and yet we work for this money,” he said.
The outburst, however, drew mixed reactions online. While some sympathized with Kats, others harshly criticized him, advising him to consider farming instead of expecting free money. Others accused him of dragging Bobi Wine’s name into the matter for relevance.
Kats maintained that his fight was not personal but rather for fairness in how resources are distributed.
