The launch of the October edition of the Vumbula Uganda Festival was nothing short of electrifying as the Karimojong community stormed the streets and bars of Bandali Rise on Wednesday, thrilling revelers with powerful cultural dances that set the tone for the upcoming celebration.
The highlight of the launch was the unveiling of a star-studded lineup set to headline the festival at Ndere Cultural Centre from October 9–11. Among the performers are Sheilah Gashumba, Henry Tigan, Chozen Blood, Voltage Music, Josh Mc, Tojo, City Girl, Eyo Marcus, Dread Lazer, and Sir Dangote.
According to Zakia Lucky, the Tourism Experience Manager at Vumbula Uganda, the festival goes beyond music.
“I have been part of Vumbula Uganda Festival for many years, and I can assure you this is more than just entertainment. Expect cultural showcases, tourism exhibitions, and so much more that truly celebrate Uganda,” she said.
Festival CEO Peter Sebulime, popularly known as Demo Riley, underscored the importance of this year’s edition, noting that it coincides with the festival’s fifth anniversary.
“This edition is very special to us because we are celebrating five years of showcasing Uganda on Independence Weekend. There’s no better venue than the heart of Kampala at Ndere Cultural Centre. We are focusing on culture as a strong pillar of tourism, so expect a deeply immersive cultural showcase this time,” he said.
He further assured festival-goers of safety, revealing that the Government of Uganda has officially recognized Vumbula Uganda Festival as a national event. “Through the Ministry of Tourism, security agencies will be heavily deployed to guarantee a safe and fun experience for everyone,” Riley added.
Now in its fifth year, Vumbula Uganda Festival has established itself as one of the country’s biggest cultural showcases, blending heritage, art, music, and tourism. This October, all roads will lead to Ndere Cultural Centre for what promises to be a memorable three-day celebration of Uganda’s culture and identity.
