Former Eagles Production and Golden Band singer Stecia Mayanja has found herself at the center of a standoff with the National Peasants Party (NPP), which had earlier unveiled her its party president.

The dispute stems from her performance at a National Resistance Movement (NRM) rally held last week at Kololo Independence Grounds. NPP leadership accused her of breaching party loyalty and summoned her to explain her participation in what they described as “rival political activities.”
“This follows allegations of her participation in NRM political rallies, which are inconsistent with the National Peasants Party Constitution. She is required to respond to these allegations and will be given a fair hearing,” read part of the summons issued by the party’s Secretary General.
Instead of appearing before the party, however, Stecia responded through her lawyers, Luna Advocates, who dismissed NPP’s summons as overreaching.
“Take notice that Hajati Stecia Mayanja Farida is contracted to our client as an artist/brand name, and it is therefore part and parcel of her contractual obligations to perform when and where the company has been requisitioned to provide entertainment services,” the letter stated.
Her lawyers further argued that the party has no authority to “muzzle or curtail” her rights as a performing artist, clarifying that her membership in NPP is as an individual citizen and not in her professional capacity as an entertainer.
“Our client is registered to your party as an individual and not as a performing artist. You have to draw a clear line to that effect,” the letter added, before demanding that NPP withdraw the summons and issue a written apology.
The unfolding dispute has raised fresh questions about the intersection between politics and entertainment, with Stecia’s case exposing the tightrope many artists walk between political affiliation and professional engagements.
