What started as a desperate attempt to spark creativity and stretch his hours in the studio quickly spiraled into a destructive cycle. Days blurred into sleepless nights, his energy drained away, and the toll weighed heavily not only on his music but also on his family. Musician Geosteady, real name Hassan Kigozi, has revealed how his life took a sharp turn in 2024 when drugs quietly crept into his routine and began to take control.
“It felt like I could do more,” he said in a TV interview, “but the reality is it was pulling me down.”
The impact stretched beyond his music. As a father, he admits the past year was especially painful. What had once been a manageable co-parenting arrangement grew complicated, and for several months he was largely absent from his children’s lives, a void that weighed heavily on him.
It took the intervention of close friends to break the cycle. They persuaded him to check into Life Back Rehabilitation Center in Katale, where he was confronted with the reality that he was not alone in his struggle. Inside, he met people battling not only drug dependency but also depression, food addiction, and sleep disorders. The facility was intensely controlled, with security so strict that walking out before completing treatment was simply not an option.
Geosteady also opened up about the financial strain that came with recovery. A stay at the rehabilitation center cost Shs 80,000 a day — roughly Shs 2.4 million a month — covering accommodation, meals, and staff support. For the singer, the bill would have been overwhelming, but he says the entire expense was shouldered by Reach A Hand Uganda founder Humphrey Nabimanya, whose support he describes as nothing short of lifesaving.
For Geosteady, sharing his story is part of transforming a painful chapter into a lesson. Recovery, he believes, is only possible when personal commitment is met with genuine community support.
