Singer Azawi has ignited debate after a sneak preview of her upcoming interview on Kasuku Live showed her taking aim at NRM aligned singers and Members of Parliament, accusing them of cowardice, greed, and abandoning the public they claim to represent.
In the clip, Azawi makes it clear that she is not supporting any political party and not endorsing anyone. She insists that her criticism is directed at individuals who have chosen personal gain over genuine service.
Azawi accuses entertainers who align themselves with the ruling party of turning into what she calls state puppets. She argues that some artistes have traded their talent for handouts while ordinary Ugandans struggle with a deteriorating system. According to her, performing political songs for quick money is a betrayal of both the craft and the people.
She extends her criticism to Parliament, describing MPs as educated citizens who have mastered the art of being useless to Ugandans. Azawi says many legislators fear the Speaker and prefer to keep quiet instead of challenging injustices. She calls them timid spectators in a collapsing theatre, insisting that leaders should not be driven by fear.
Azawi also speaks directly to police officers, urging them to reflect on their welfare. She questions how an officer earning four hundred sixty thousand shillings per month can afford medical care for a sick mother and asks whether such a wage reflects the importance of their work.
When asked whether she prioritizes money or legacy, Azawi responds that both are possible when one maintains integrity. She says she is willing to create music for the government at a fee, but she would never stand on a stage to perform and earn money. For her, that crosses the line and compromises artistic independence.
Azawi concludes with a reminder that politics is temporary. Parties rise and fall, but the choices artistes and leaders make will define their legacy. She urges those in public life not to stoop so low for financial gain, especially when the nation is paying the price.
Hoooo!!! @AzawiOfficial exposes NRM singing artists and the whole parliament at large for “fearing” AAA and putting her to order!!!
