You ever notice how marriage turns people into unsolicited life coaches? They took one vow and suddenly are divine appointees to manage everyone else’s timelines. 2025 has been the year for weddings. Desire Luzinda (rep-ing for the 40+ queens), Former Miss Uganda, Ellah, Irene Ntale, Baby Gloria; everywhere you turn, there is a wedding hashtag and a matching kitenge. Can we leave 2026 for us singles, please?
LET US BE.
We have learnt to tolerate our families because they are probably worried they will have to nurse us through our golden years. But married people? You should not be saying these dumb things. Some of you are walking TED Talks on why not to get married. Yet here you are, two weeks in, hosting conferences about it.
“So, when are you getting married?”
At 70. When I have dementia and can forget I am married. You, Mrs Lubs, did you plan yours at 40? You did not invent marriage. You are just the latest batch to sign up. Serve your time and leave us alone. We are for the streets.
