Pastor Wilson Bugembe once again demonstrated his characteristic balance and openness when it comes to Uganda’s political divides, reaffirming his affection for both President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine.
The celebrated gospel singer shared the moment over the weekend while performing at Mickie Wine’s concert at Serena Hotel, where he paused his performance to speak warmly of the two leaders.
“I love both Bobi and Museveni,” Bugembe told the charged audience. “Bobi is my brother, Museveni is my father.”
He explained that while many people misunderstand his stance, Bobi Wine fully understands him. Bugembe went on to praise Bobi Wine for the instrumental role he played in his music career, especially during the time he released Kombawo Eka, noting that Kyagulanyi offered support when he needed it most.
The pastor also expressed gratitude to President Museveni, revealing that the President personally paid for his Primary Seven education—a gesture he has never forgotten.
Bugembe has had musical ties to both sides of the political divide. He featured in Museveni’s 2015 campaign song Tubonga Nawe and also participated in Bobi Wine’s Tuliyambala Engule. He further collaborated with Kyagulanyi on their gospel-reggae fusion track Ojanga Nosaba.
During the Serena performance, Bugembe briefly interacted with Bobi Wine at his table before the two launched into a light-hearted freestyle of their hit Ojanga Nosaba. Their humorous exchange drew loud cheers from the audience, turning the moment into one of the evening’s highlights.
