Sheebah Karungi turned an ordinary Monday into a deeply emotional milestone as she unveiled a newly built house for her mother in Mityana, a gift wrapped in decades of pain, healing and triumph.
The celebration, attended by close friends, fellow artists and family, doubled as an official housewarming ceremony – but beneath the music and laughter was a story Sheebah has carried since childhood.
While giving her speech, the Queen Karma opened up about one of her most painful memories: watching her mother being thrown out of their home over unpaid rent worth just 8,000 shillings when she was only five years old. She said that moment – the fear, the humiliation, the helplessness – has never left her, and it fueled her determination to work, rise and rewrite her family’s story.
Sheebah also revealed how, growing up, she would hide their house from friends. After school, she would walk them past a different gate, pretending it was her home, only returning to the real one once they left. “I used to hide where we lived because I was ashamed,” she confessed. “But now I won’t be hiding this house from anyone.”
Handing over the keys to her mother marked more than a construction project; it was a public declaration of how far she has come and a message to young girls who look up to her. She urged them to let her journey be a reminder that difficult beginnings do not define the ending.
In Mityana last night, Sheebah didn’t just unveil a house. She unveiled a promise fulfilled, a generational victory, and a story of resilience that will inspire countless young women to rise above their circumstances and build new futures for their families.
