Television news anchor Canary Mugume has broken his silence following emotional revelations shared online by his ex-wife, Sasha Ferguson, who accused him of past abuse and neglect. In a detailed public statement, Canary dismissed the allegations and instead claimed he was the one who endured violence during their marriage.

Canary said he had chosen silence for a long time, but felt compelled to address what he described as a distorted narrative.
“There’s been an attempt to label me an abuser and an irresponsible father,” he began, adding that he belonged to the “unreported statistics of men who experience domestic violence from partners with uncontrolled anger issues.”
According to Canary, he often restrained himself despite provocation and physical assaults, but remained silent because “we are men in a corporate world, we stay silent and show up every day.”
He claimed to have evidence of injuries, including photos showing himself bleeding after alleged attacks, saying his family and close friends were aware of what he went through.
Canary also refuted accusations that he abandoned his children, saying he has continued to provide financial support even though he has only seen them once in the past ten months.
He said the financial amount he sends monthly was not self-determined but set by Sasha, adding that he has proof of payments and messages acknowledging receipt.
Canary further revealed that he took the matter to court, where he says he was granted custody of the children on grounds of desertion — alleging that the mother once left the children in a locked apartment with a maid while she travelled overseas. However, he claims enforcement authorities failed to implement the custody decision.

“Since January, I have been denied access to my children, despite numerous requests to see them and third parties intervening,” he stated.
Canary ended his statement with a message directed at men facing similar situations.
“To men: speak up against violence from your wives when you still have the chance. I suffered in silence for too long. It didn’t help.”
He added that he would not discuss the matter any further, saying, “This is the last time I am addressing this issue — please give me space to heal.”
