Media personality Etania Mutoni has stirred debate online after advising women to show more respect for money no matter how small the amount and to stop relying entirely on men for financial support.
While appearing on the It’s Never That Serious podcast with Sabrina Agasha, Etania said many young women have a sense of entitlement because they have never earned their own income.
“I know girls who think: ‘If a man is not providing for me, he cannot tell me anything.’ It’s because you’re broke, and you don’t know how to work for your own money,” she said.
“The day you learn to work for your own money, you will respect it. Even if someone gave you Shs50k, you would respect it.”
According to Etania, true gratitude comes from understanding the hustle behind every shilling. She noted that some women demand millions from the men in their lives without having ever made such amounts themselves. Because they do not know the sacrifice required to earn it, they tend to belittle any contribution that doesn’t meet their expectations.
She encouraged young women to shift their mindset and build financial independence instead of treating men as their only source of income.
Etania’s remarks have since sparked heated discussions, with supporters applauding her for promoting self-sufficiency, while critics argue she is out of touch with the reality of economically disadvantaged women in Uganda.
