After seven years of a steady, quietly blossoming love story, singer and songwriter Afrie and her partner Wek Mugoda finally tied the knot a decision that felt both inevitable and beautifully timed.
Now two years into their marriage, the couple continues to nurture a bond built in the creative spaces where they first crossed paths, long before romance arrived.
To mark their anniversary, Afrie took to social media with a touching message sprinkled with her signature playful humor, celebrating Wek’s unwavering dedication throughout their relationship.
“It’s been twelve years since the day we met and you asked if you could be my friend,” she wrote, recalling their first encounter. “I said I’d think about it, and three years later told you there was an open slot.”
She cheekily framed their love story as a long and determined hiring journey Wek “applied, failed five times but didn’t give up till he finally passed the bar.” After “interning for two years,” she joked that he may have missed the key detail in the contract: “It said ‘in perpetuity’.”
“It’s been two years since that day,” she added. “Here’s your performance review.”
Their origin story dates back to Open Mic Uganda in 2013, a poetry and music space where they first found themselves in the same room though sparks didn’t immediately fly. Fate, however, kept their paths aligned at several events, right up until a single seven-hour phone call shifted everything.
Two years later, they officially became a couple, embarking on a love story that continues to grow with intention, wit, and a whole lot of heart.
