A prominent Arua City based musician has been granted bail after spending close to two weeks on remand at a government prison over allegations of cyber harassment.
Irishad Abdulazis Isha, popularly known by his stage name LP Shady, was released on bail by the Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Arua City, presided over by Senior Grade One Magistrate Ms Christine Imalingat. The court ordered the artist to deposit a cash bail of Shs1 million, while two sureties were bonded at Shs10 million each, non-cash.
LP Shady was last week remanded by the same court after being charged under Section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act 2011. Prosecutors allege that the artist used digital platforms to make offensive and harassing statements targeting women and a public official.
The case stems from a video interview that circulated widely on social media on November 19, 2025. In the footage, LP Shady is heard making derogatory remarks about women from Arua, describing them in a demeaning manner. He allegedly claimed that if one part of a woman’s body was attractive, another would be unattractive, remarks that many viewers described as insulting and degrading.
The controversy deepened during the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence in Arua City, held under the theme Against Digital Gender Based Violence. During the event, Mr Emmanuel Angudubo, the Assistant Deputy Town Clerk of Arua City, publicly condemned the artist’s comments, describing them as abusive and a violation of women’s rights.
Court heard that instead of apologising, LP Shady allegedly responded with further attacks. In another video posted on November 24, the artist reportedly insulted Mr Angudubo, referring to him as a “mere poor civil servant” with no authority to criticise him. The attacks allegedly continued on November 27, when LP Shady is accused of posting additional personal and defamatory statements against the city official on social media.
Mr Angudubo reported the matter to Arua Central Police Station under reference number CRB 875/2025. Police opened investigations, recorded statements and arrested the suspect alongside two others, who were later released on December 4, 2025.
LP Shady is a known figure in the Arua music scene, with popular songs such as Chefeke, Afa Azi Were and One Water among those that have earned him a following, particularly among young people.
The charges against him are anchored in the Computer Misuse Act of 2011, as amended in 2022. The law seeks to regulate the use of digital platforms by criminalising offences such as cyber harassment, hate speech, unauthorised access to data and the spread of harmful or false information online. While the legislation aims to curb online abuse and protect users, it has also attracted criticism from rights activists who argue that some provisions threaten freedom of expression.
The case is expected to return to court for further hearing as investigations continue.
