Rapper Fefe Busi openly questioned the role of talent in determining success, singling out Gravity Omutujju as an example of an artiste who thrives on hard work rather than raw ability.
Speaking during a recent interview, Fefe Busi claimed that Gravity does not possess much musical talent but has built his career through relentless effort and hard work.
“Gravity has no talent, but he is so hardworking. It’s not a joke. He is very hardworking,” Fefe said, stressing that consistency and grind often matter more than natural skill.
He extended the argument to other big names in the industry, including Eddy Kenzo and Big Eye, noting that, in his view, talent alone contributes only about 30 percent to success in music. The remaining 70 percent, he said, comes from passion, persistence, branding, and understanding the business side of the industry, a sentiment he said echoes earlier remarks made by Navio.
Fefe admitted that this reality once left him disillusioned. “I reached a point where I hated this music industry because the people with real talent are not the biggest,” he revealed. According to him, many artists who dominate the charts may lack strong songwriting skills but excel in performance and audience connection.
“But the talent most of them don’t have is writing,” he added. “They are talented in performing.”
The rapper went further to claim that about 70 percent of Uganda’s music industry lacks talent, arguing that people enter the industry for different reasons. Some chase fame or money, others are driven by passion, while a few simply find themselves in music due to circumstance. Only a small number, he said, are genuinely gifted, while others pursue music as a way of fulfilling a personal dream.
Reflecting on his own journey, Fefe said he started with nothing but a dream, using passion as his driving force rather than relying solely on talent.
Though the two were once friends before fame, they have since grown into fierce competitors in the rap scene, often clashing publicly over dominance and credibility.
