Ugandan music icon Jose Chameleone continues to stretch his influence beyond the stage, this time taking his vision to Burundi.
The Leone Island boss, born Joseph Mayanja, was recently hosted by Burundi President Gen Évariste Ndayishimiye at the Mwami Ntare Rushatsi Palace on December 15. During the high-profile meeting, Chameleone pledged to establish an ultra-modern music studio in Burundi as part of efforts to support and empower young creatives.
According to a statement shared by the Burundi presidency on social media, the celebrated singer presented several projects aimed at uplifting Burundian youth through music and the creative arts.
“H.E. Évariste Ndayishimiye received in audience the very famous Ugandan singer artist Jose Chameleone at Kwa Ntare Rushatsi Palace. The artist had come to present his projects for the Burundian youth, including the establishment of an ultra-modern studio,” the statement read.
Sources close to the Mateeka hitmaker say the visit is part of a broader strategy to expand his business and cultural interests within the Great Lakes region, particularly in Burundi, where he enjoys a strong and growing fan base.
Chameleone is also reportedly exploring plans to launch Jambo FM, a regional radio station aimed at promoting East African music, culture and talent, further signalling his transition from music star to cultural entrepreneur.
Following the meeting, the singer expressed gratitude to the Burundian leader and people in a heartfelt message, thanking President Ndayishimiye for the warm reception and describing the moment as deeply meaningful. He praised the long-standing historical ties between the people of Uganda and Burundi, noting that the encounter marked the beginning of a new shared journey built on friendship and mutual respect.
This is not the first time the veteran artist has spoken about investing in creative infrastructure. In the past, he has publicly expressed interest in establishing a music school in Uganda, inspired by Rwanda’s renowned Nyundo School of Music.
In recent months, Chameleone has increasingly been spotted in VVIP circles across the region, signalling a new chapter that blends music, mentorship and business expansion. As his regional footprint continues to grow, fans and industry observers alike are watching closely to see how these ambitious plans unfold.
