Singer Chosen Becky has been summoned by the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara to appear before the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development on Tuesday, December 23, following public outrage over her alleged use of her children in controversial messaging during her civil wedding celebrations.
The summons comes after images and videos from the singer’s wedding to Abdul Ssekajja circulated widely online, showing her children holding placards with messages that appeared to praise their new stepfather while indirectly referencing their biological father, Dictator Amir. Some of the messages read “We’ve finally got a caring Dad” and “We are the Ssekajjas”, content that sparked backlash from netizens who accused the singer of dragging minors into an adult dispute.
Critics argued that the placards were not innocent expressions of joy but a calculated attempt to publicly respond to her bitter fallout with Dictator Amir. The online reaction was swift and divided, with many condemning the move as insensitive and exploitative, while others defended Chosen Becky, citing her right to celebrate her new family.

The controversy unfolded just days after the songstress shared an emotional statement detailing the collapse of her relationship with Amir. In the statement, she accused her former lover of neglecting her during pregnancy and failing to support her and the children. Chosen Becky revealed that it was during this difficult period that she grew closer to Ssekajja, whom she described as caring and present, eventually leading to their marriage.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry, the government raised concern that the public display involving children could expose them to emotional harm, online exploitation and public controversy. The Ministry emphasised that while freedom of expression and family privacy are protected, children should never be used as instruments in adult disagreements or publicity stunts.
In the summons signed by Minister Balaam Barugahara, Chosen Becky is required to appear for a formal engagement and is expected to withdraw the alleged actions involving the children, issue a public apology, provide a written commitment not to involve minors in personal disputes and delete all related social media content. The Ministry also issued a general warning to public figures, reminding them that children’s rights are protected by law and that celebrity status does not exempt anyone from accountability.
