Celebrated videographer, cinematographer, and film director Sasha Vybz has announced plans to open a film school aimed at equipping young creatives with practical filmmaking skills.
The school is scheduled to officially open its doors in March next year.
Born Ian Akankwasa, Sasha Vybz revealed in a recent interview that after 14 years in the industry, he feels a deep responsibility to give back to the community that shaped him.
For him, establishing a film school is more than a business venture. It is a chance to influence, inspire, and prepare the next generation of African storytellers.
“I’ve been in this game for 14 years, and I feel I owe it to the people,” he said. “Most people come into the industry, milk it, and take everything out for their own selfish interests. I don’t want to follow that path. This industry raised me. It fed me. People loved what I created and put food on my table. If I can leave a legacy that inspires young people, why not?”
Sasha emphasized that while the school will be professionally run, profit is not his sole motivation. He plans to offer scholarships and bursaries to talented young people who may not be able to afford formal training but still carry a strong passion for film.
The upcoming institution, he explained, will be a one-stop creative hub where aspiring filmmakers can learn, get inspired, and experience the behind-the-scenes process that has defined his journey.
Students will be trained across a wide range of disciplines, including camera work, directing, scriptwriting, makeup, and special effects.
Through this initiative, Sasha Vybz hopes to help shift the narrative around African content creation, moving it from raw ambition to refined, globally competitive storytelling while nurturing a new generation equipped with both skills and purpose.
