The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has issued a stern warning to singer Rebecca Kukiriza, popularly known as Chosen Becky, following a controversial incident involving her children at a private wedding ceremony earlier this week.
Chosen Becky was summoned by the ministry and directed to appear before the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs at the ministry offices on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, for a formal engagement over the matter.
However, even ahead of the scheduled meeting, State Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Balaam Barugahara has continued to publicly caution the singer, warning of serious consequences should the ministry determine that the children’s welfare is at risk.
In a recent media interview, Balaam stated that the ministry has the legal authority to remove the children from their mother’s custody and place them in a children’s home if necessary.
“The ministry has all the rights to take away the children and put them in a children’s home,” Balaam said, adding that officials are concerned about the singer’s recent conduct. He controversially claimed that the ministry has observed behavior suggesting that Chosen Becky is “about to run mad.”
Balaam also criticized the singer’s alleged decision to change her children’s names, arguing that she has no legal right to do so unilaterally.
“She has no right to change the children’s names because they are born of two parents, the father and the mother. The children belong to the father, while the mother helps in bringing them up. She has no right to change the children’s name,” he added.
The controversy stems from widely circulated images from Chosen Becky’s wedding ceremony with Abdul Sekajja, held on Monday, December 15. In the images, her children were seen carrying placards bearing messages that many interpreted as being directed at adults.
The images quickly sparked heated debate on social media, with critics raising concerns about the children’s exposure to public controversy, possible emotional harm, and the risk of online exploitation.
