Uganda’s long-running music-meets-politics rivalry has flared up once again, with Eddy Kenzo turning his attention back to fellow artist-turned-politician Bobi Wine, this time over the powerful claim that Uganda is “bleeding.”
Kenzo, now serving as Presidential Advisor on the Arts Industry, questioned what he sees as a contradiction at the heart of Bobi Wine’s message.
“If the country is truly bleeding under President Museveni’s leadership,” Kenzo asked, how did Bobi Wine manage to rise from the same environment to become one of Uganda’s wealthiest and most influential figures?
To Kenzo, personal success within the system weakens the argument that the system is entirely broken.
The remarks are the latest chapter in a years-long public back-and-forth between the two stars, whose contrasting journeys have come to symbolize deeper divisions in Uganda’s cultural and political landscape.
While Bobi Wine positions himself as a voice for the oppressed and a critic of the establishment, Kenzo has consistently defended engagement with the existing leadership, arguing that progress can still be achieved from within.
