Prominent events promoter Nobat Events has publicly accused the leadership of the Federation of Uganda Promoters Association of mishandling government support funds meant to rescue struggling promoters.
Speaking out in frustration, Nobat alleged that the association, under the leadership of acting president Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, recently received a substantial government payout intended to cushion promoters grappling with heavy financial losses and help stabilise their operations. However, according to Nobat, the money never reached the intended beneficiaries.
Instead, he claims the funds were diverted to individuals who neither qualify for the support nor actively contribute to the industry.
“He pushed unknown promoters and even some of his girlfriends to benefit from the money,” Nobat alleged, sparking outrage and heated debate within entertainment circles.
The promoter says he feels sidelined and disrespected, especially given his long-standing contribution to the industry. Nobat insists he is among the top five promoters who clearly meet the criteria for such support, noting that he has suffered losses on nearly every show he has organised in recent months due to rising production costs and shrinking profit margins.
According to Nobat, the alleged mismanagement of funds highlights deeper governance issues within the promoters’ federation and raises serious questions about transparency and accountability.
The accusations have since sent shockwaves across the entertainment fraternity, with several industry players quietly expressing similar concerns, even as others wait to hear a response from Abtex and the federation’s leadership.
