If last year proved anything, it is that comedian Dr Hillary Okello is no longer just a local favourite. He is one of Uganda’s most booked comedians outside the country.
Fresh off the success of his maiden continental tour, Dr Hillary Okello Live, the comedian spent much of last year performing across South Africa, Botswana, South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The tour not only expanded his audience beyond Uganda’s borders, but also strengthened his reputation as a storyteller who carries authentic Ugandan experiences onto international stages.
Through stand-up comedy, Okello has found a way to connect cultures, drawing laughter from shared African realities while keeping his Ugandan identity firmly intact.
His growing influence has also opened doors beyond comedy. During the tour, he engaged with several dignitaries, including Zambia’s Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts, with discussions centred on opportunities for artistic collaboration across the continent.
Maintained by the tour’s success, Okello is now setting his sights even higher. This year, he returns with a new stand-up comedy tour titled Jokes from Far Away, aimed at further cementing his presence on the global comedy scene.
The ambitious tour will take him beyond Africa to the UK, Australia, the United States, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Sweden and Norway, while also returning him to familiar African audiences in Kenya, South Africa and Sudan, among others. More destinations are still being added.
The first half of the year will focus on performances across Africa, before the tour extends to other continents later in the year.
