The sun was high and so were the spirits as revellers gathered at the UMA Showgrounds in Lugogo to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and flavours of Bunyoro and Tooro culture at the 2025 edition of Kwegonza Avenue. From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was electric, with complimentary Pilsner King in hand as they walked the red carpet and captured moments at the photobooth, setting a festive tone for the day.
The food, beer and busheera stations thrived with activity, but it was the Cultural Village that stole the early spotlight. Crafted like a miniature reed palace, it offered a rich sense of authenticity. Visitors were drawn to its inviting ambience as the resonant beats of traditional drums echoed across the grounds. The Nsiime Cultural Troupe emerged with captivating performances of the Amakondere and Olunyege dances, drawing dancing trains from the audience in a moving display of unity and shared heritage.
Pilsner Lager, which has supported the event for four consecutive years, reaffirmed its commitment to cultural celebration. “Over the years, Pilsner Lager has celebrated Uganda’s cultural fabric by supporting events that embody heritage, unity and community spirit, like Kwegonza Avenue here today,” said Peter Ekwang, a representative of the brand. “Four years into this partnership, we’re proud to see it continuously growing and honouring the beloved traditions of Bunyoro and Tooro.”
The organisers expressed their gratitude for the turnout, which drew large numbers from Batooro, Banyoro and beyond. “We want to keep traditions alive while making them relevant to our people today, so it has been great to see the numbers that showed up here,” said Leonard B. Araali, co-founder of Kwegonza Avenue. “The goal is to preserve and modernise cultural expression, and it’s energising to have the people and partners like Pilsner supporting this vision as we continue bridging generations.”
As evening fell, the stage came alive with a diverse music lineup. Genee opened with a stirring live rendition of his hit “Akiiki,” drawing the crowd closer for a communal sing-along. The evening featured an eclectic mix of performers from across the region, including Westsyd Trap Squad, crowd favourite Big Doug, and artists from Hoima City, Masindi, Bundibugyo, Fort Portal and Kamwenge.
The energy reached its peak when gospel star Levixone took the stage, sending the audience into a euphoric high. His set ended on an intimate note as he descended into the crowd, serenading fans for a personal connection many will remember. DJ Bankrobber kept the energy alive, spinning into the night as festivalgoers danced until late.
With another successful edition concluded, Kwegonza Avenue once again affirmed its place as a vibrant platform for celebrating Uganda’s heritage, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what future editions will bring.
