Joshua Baraka and Eddy Kenzo are two Ugandan artists with the biggest audience on YouTube.
Eddy Kenzo, since his continental hit Sitya Loss catapulted into a sensation and a trend accumulating millions of views on different platforms.
With 2.34million monthly audience, Kenzo seems to be that Ugandan artist whose content different Ugandans and Africans interact with.
Of course, with songs such as Sitya Loss, which have been listened to 112million times, the artist is a force on the platform.
He’s closely followed by Joshua Baraka, whose 2.21million listeners seem to be growing steadily even when he has less than half the catalogue Eddy Kenzo has. Because of his latest hit Wrong Places, Baraka has been hitting different milestones on both the world stage and streaming platforms. This year, he became the first local artist to cross the half a million listeners on Spotify.
His numbers are still expected to rise with different people discovering the song everyday that goes by.
The two are closely followed by Sheebah Karungi and Jose Chameleone at 1.87 and 1.54million monthly audiences respectively.
YouTube has added an important part to their YouTube Music streaming platform.
Monthly listeners, popularised by Spotify over the years, the feature is one that has always caused debate both in America, Europe and Africa.
The new metric aptly titled Monthly Audience will feature audience metrics for a 28 day circle, as explained on Google’s YouTube support site.
“We’re introducing a new fan-facing public metric on YouTube Music: Monthly Audience. It will update daily to show an artist’s total number of unique listeners and viewers across all formats in the last 28 days.”
The article explains that the monthly metric will capture data from all YouTube surfaces.
“Monthly Audience takes into account users listening or viewing an artist’s content across all formats on all YouTube surfaces, including YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids.”
It also includes all forms of content where an artists’ music has been used including reaction videos, collaborations and shorts.
“Videos, including Shorts, uploaded by the artist or their label. Collaborations featuring the artist’s music uploaded to other channels. Videos, including Shorts, uploaded by fans with the artist’s music. Non-music content from the artist’s channel.”
According to YouTube’s data, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, and Doechii have the biggest monthly audience on the platform.
