Remember that time we had a whole launch party for a Range Rover Velar and they told us there were only three in the country? Delulu keeps winning in this land, because honestly, in Uganda, as long as you want to be, you can be. At least Sevo gave us that. Fast forward, and guess what? Elon Musk’s metallic brick-on-wheels, the Cybertruck, has finally touched down in the 256.
From the video making rounds, the unveiling guy casually mentioned that it came in by air. AIR! Meanwhile, for most of us, the closest we have come to air transport is flying from the dormitory windows during morning prep, or jumping the school fence to catch Chaka Demus live. The man even emphasised it is the first in East Africa and only the third in Africa. Whoever imported that car, on behalf of all Ugandans, thank you. Just remember, that Cybertruck is now community property. When people line up to take selfies leaning on it, please do not start frowning we all contributed spiritually.
The truck was paraded around town like a captured traitor in medieval times slowly towed, cameras flashing, people screaming. But the real question from all corners of Uganda was simple: where will it be serviced? Which mechanic in Kisekka Market has the manual for a Cybertruck? Spare parts? Oba from Owino? Because if that thing breaks down near Wandegeya traffic lights, eh, it will immediately downgrade from futuristic beast to stationary Wi-Fi router. But let us not kill the vibe. For now, we will celebrate. Uganda has joined the Cybertruck club. We may not know if it moves, where it will charge from, or whether it was just imported as a prop for weddings in Munyonyo gardens but what matters is, we have arrived.
Next stop… flying taxi ?
