The Ekyooto Ha Mpango festival, a historic celebration of King Oyo’s reign, climaxed on Saturday with a music performance headlined by Cindy and other Fort Portal-based artists. The event brought to life the fusion of culture, rhythm, and modern entertainment.
Cindy, who performed solo for the first time after her successful concert a few weeks back, delivered a captivating set. She sang hits like “Boom Party,” “Selekta,” “Copy Cat,” “Still Standing,” and her latest collaboration with Omega 256, “See You Tonight.” The crowd sang along word for word, clearly enjoying their best performance of the night.
The festival’s lineup showcased Tooro’s talent, including sets from DJs Ken and Hash, and performances by Aliddeki Brian, Zaya Rosette, and Big Doug. The House of Talent Cultural Performers captivated the crowd with a powerful cultural performance and the traditional amakondere dance.
As the clock struck midnight, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the sky in honor of Omukama Oyo. DJ Tony then took the decks, keeping the crowd dancing into the early hours.
The four-day festivities began with a Royal Tour, including visits to crater lakes, Amabere caves, and Rwenzori views. King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV welcomed guests to his breathtaking farm, sharing his vision of preserving culture, celebrating heritage, and embracing sustainability.
Rt Hon Anita Annet Among, who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, praised the Tooro monarch for his three decades of visionary leadership. “His Majesty has preserved culture while driving socio-economic progress,” she said.
The celebrations included crafts and culinary showcases, cultural dialogues, and thought forums. The event, organized by Talent Africa Group with support from various sponsors, marked 30 years of Empango, celebrating royal grace, cultural pride, and timeless legacy.
