Sunday night glittered with rhythm, luxury, and celebration as Kampala’s entertainment elite gathered to honour DJ Spinny’s ten-year milestone behind the decks.
Dubbed “Spinny and Friends,” the celebration unfolded at the scenic Mestil Hotel, which was transformed into a playground of rhythm, elegance, and culture. The event wasn’t just another party—it was a statement of artistry, craftsmanship, and endurance.
From the afternoon, the energy was palpable. Kampala’s top DJs and MCs, including DJ Anselm and Selector Jay, curated a nostalgic mix of old-school classics and R&B grooves, setting the tone for the night. As dusk settled, the beats evolved—ushering in amapiano and Afro-house rhythms that filled the open skies with electric energy.
Adding her own sparkle to the night was Sheila Gashumba, known behind the decks as DJ Lil Stunner, whose amapiano-heavy set brought an infectious vibe to the crowd. Her performance—complete with dancers and interactive choreography—turned the audience into an impromptu flash mob, dancing to the pulse of Kwaito and Afro-house sounds.
Later, DJ Dash, Don Julio’s Core Brand Ambassador, took over alongside DJ Kash Pro and Fem Deejay, keeping the momentum alive before the night’s main act.
When DJ Spinny, real name Joseph Kaliisa, made his grand entrance under a burst of fireworks, the celebration reached fever pitch. Fans roared, phones lit up the venue, and for a moment, Mestil became the heartbeat of Kampala’s nightlife.
Renowned across Africa and featured on Hotlist Africa’s roster of top DJs alongside DJ Neptune, DJ Spinall, and DJ Maphorisa, Spinny proved why he holds that spot. His set was a masterclass in storytelling through sound—seamlessly blending EDM, garage, Afro-house, gabber, and Amapiano with reggae and dancehall elements to create an unforgettable sonic journey.
The night rose even higher with live performances from South Africa’s Jazzworx, Thukutela, and GL Ceejay, who delivered electrifying renditions of amapiano anthems such as Tholukuthi (The Clap Song), Bengicela, Isaka (6am), and Mawhoo, turning Mestil into a cross-border celebration of African sound.
True to its legacy, Don Julio Tequila added a refined touch to the celebration. Guests indulged in premium selections including Don Julio 1942, Añejo, Blanco, and Reposado, complemented by signature cocktails crafted for the night. Standouts included On the Decks—a crisp mix featuring Don Julio Blanco—and Spinny@10, a smooth, agave-forward tribute to the man of the hour.
