Elijah Kitaka is among Uganda’s most exciting young voices — a fusion artist whose soulful Afro rhythms, reggae undertones, and reflective lyrics have steadily built him a loyal following.
This month, Kitaka will headline the Gordon’s Acacia Brunch Affair in Mbarara — a monthly lifestyle experience that celebrates music, food, and fashion. Ahead of the show, he spoke to us about his journey, his creative evolution, and what fans can expect from his performance.
For those who may not be familiar with your music, how would you introduce yourself as an artist?
I’m a Ugandan musician whose sound blends soul, Afro-fusion, reggae, and dancehall. My music tells my story — the struggles, the wins, and the lessons in between. I want people to feel something real when they listen to my songs, whether they’re in Uganda or anywhere in the world.
Your music has evolved quite a bit. How would you describe your current sound?
I’ve grown a lot as an artist. I’ve experimented with different genres, but I’m now focused on creating a distinct African sound that reflects our culture and emotions. Life, love, and experience inspire my music — I just try to turn those moments into something that connects.
You’ve come a long way from your first single to performing on major stages like this one. What’s that journey been like?
It’s been full of learning. Every step — from my early singles to songs like Dawa, Ekyange, and Daily Bundle — has taught me something new. There have been challenges, of course, but also a lot of growth. I’m grateful to my fans and team for believing in the vision.
You’re set to perform at the Gordon’s Acacia Brunch in Mbarara. How do you feel about that experience?
I’m really excited. Mbarara has an amazing vibe, and I can’t wait to share my music with fans there. The Gordon’s Acacia Brunch is one of those events that bring people together to celebrate creativity, and I’m happy to be part of that. It’s always special performing in new spaces where people connect with your sound in real time.
What should fans expect from your performance?
Energy, soul, and surprises. I’ll be performing Daily Bundle live in Western Uganda for the first time — that’s one I’m looking forward to. But overall, it’ll be about giving fans a real musical experience, not just a show.
What’s next for you, any upcoming collaborations or goals you’re working on?
I’m working on new projects and collaborations that I’m really excited about. I want to push my sound even further and take Ugandan music to the world. I’ve got big dreams — a Grammy is one of them — and I’m working every day toward that.
You seem very grounded despite the attention. What keeps you that way?
Remembering where I started. I came from humble beginnings, and I don’t take any of this for granted. The goal isn’t fame — it’s growth and purpose. As long as I’m making honest music, I’m at peace.
