They say food brings people together. No one remembers who said it first but at The Singleton’s Chef’s Table, those words came alive once again.
The third edition of the exclusive dining experience unfolded in the lush gardens of Kardamom & Koffee, filling the evening with laughter, flavour, and finely crafted whisky cocktails.
A night of taste and connection
The Singleton’s Chef’s Table is more than a dinner, it’s a celebration of craft. A celebrated chef hosts guests at a single, elegantly laid table, guiding them through a bespoke menu of courses paired with curated Singleton cocktails.
This edition spotlighted Chef Sholto, who designed a menu inspired by Uganda’s rich culinary heritage, reimagined with contemporary flair. The long table, draped in Singleton green, adorned with blooms, and set with glistening whisky glasses set the stage for an intimate evening of food, conversation, and discovery.
Even before the first course, guests were already mingling, cocktail in hand. Strangers became tablemates, and tablemates turned into friends, proving that sometimes, the best connections are sparked over a shared sip.
An ode to Uganda
Chef Sholto’s multi-course menu celebrated Ugandan ingredients with inventive pairings. Each plate was a nod to familiar flavours, presented with fine-dining precision.
Take, for instance, the tilapia course paired with a lemon-laced cocktail. It was a sophisticated homage to the classic fish kikalayi, merging tradition with refinement.
“Uganda’s ingredients have always been world-class,” said Chef Sholto with a smile. “Tonight, I just gave them a stage worthy of their beauty.”
The event, he noted, was also a continuation of Uganda’s independence celebrations — a culinary tribute to homegrown flavour and national pride.
Flavour meets rhythm
As the plates changed, so did the rhythm. A live band filled the air with soulful covers, from timeless classics to Maurice Kirya’s Beera Nabo, keeping guests swaying between courses.
Meanwhile, The Singleton cocktails flowed seamlessly from pre-dinner to dessert, crafted to complement each dish from zesty citrus blends to smooth, honeyed finishes. Early arrivals at the main restaurant toasted with their first cocktails long before dinner was served, setting the tone for an evening of indulgence and easy camaraderie.
A toast to craft and conversation
“The Chef’s Table has always been about more than just fine dining, it’s about shared moments, discovery, and connection,” said Simon Lapyem, The Singleton brand manager at East Africa Breweries Limited. “The Singleton exists to elevate such experiences, where every sip enhances conversation and every flavour tells a story. Celebrating Uganda through food and flavour felt like a perfect pairing.”
By the end of the night, it was clear: this wasn’t just a dinner, it was an experience, where craftsmanship met culture, and every flavour carried a story of Uganda, shared one course, and one conversation at a time.
