For weeks, rumors have been swirling about a supposed clash between Eddy Kenzo and Bebe Cool. Word on the street has been that the two aren’t seeing eye to eye, despite both appearing on the same NRM campaign trail.
At first, Kenzo dismissed the gossip, assuring fans that all was well between him and the Gagamel boss. But now, the Big Talent star has lifted the lid on what’s really happening — and it turns out the tension runs deeper than politics.
Speaking to journalists in the Bugisu sub-region, the two-time Grammy nominee revealed that their differences stem from ego and competition within the music industry.
“Our misunderstandings stem from ego and jealousy,” Kenzo said. “It’s not about politics. The friction between us is about leadership and pride.”
Kenzo explained that Bebe Cool has had a hard time accepting his position as president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), which gives him an upper hand in directing the affairs of the industry.
“Emotions have always got the better of him,” Kenzo added. “That’s why we clash. He doesn’t want to accept that a young man like me can be their leader. I don’t let him do as he wishes because I work to satisfy many, not a few.”
Despite the friction, Kenzo maintains that there’s no lasting animosity between them.
“I give him respect, but they don’t accept that,” he said. “I respect them, but I have to do my job as a leader and make decisions for the good of all artists.”
As Uganda’s music scene continues to evolve, the dynamics between two of its biggest stars remain a reminder that leadership in entertainment — just like fame — comes with its own challenges.
