Lovers of smooth soulful R and B are in for a rare treat as American star Joe Thomas prepares to return to Kampala for A Night with Joe Thomas, slated for Sunday November 30 at Mestil Gardens.
The concert was officially announced on Thursday November 13 at the I and M Bank Uganda head offices in Kingdom Kampala.
Organisers say the show will offer fans an unforgettable evening filled with timeless R and B classics, with Fenon handling full production. The singer is expected to deliver a nostalgic performance that takes audiences back to the golden era of the genre.
Before Joe takes the stage, the day will open with Music and Friends, a relaxed daytime experience starting at 1pm. The pre show will feature music, food, drinks and a laid back social vibe to warm up revellers ahead of the main event.
Keith Ashaba, one of the directors at Malembe Lifestyle, said the plan is to create a full day and night experience, beginning with sets from Rwandan deejays up to 6pm.
“We have separated the venue at Mestil,” Ashaba said. “One section is dedicated to Music and Friends with performances from Macheda, Bebina, DJ Toxic and Fisto who are all flying in from Kigali. They will be performing from 1pm to 6pm as the pre party and from 6pm onwards we move into A Night with Joe.”
This will be Joe’s third performance in Uganda following his debut in 2007 and a return in 2014 for the Jazz and Soul Safari. He is currently on an African tour.
“This is more than a concert. It is a homecoming,” Ashaba added. “Joe’s music has been the soundtrack of so many lives. It is going to be a magical night for all R and B lovers.”
