Musician Ykee Benda, real name Wycliff Tugume, has become the latest artiste to openly join the NRM campaign activities, a move that has sparked intense criticism from sections of the public.
The Mpaka Records CEO shared a post highlighting his recent campaign performances across different regions, captioned: “ABOUT LAST WEEK! Representing for HE Kaguta Museveni.” While the ruling party embraced his support, online reactions were far less welcoming.
Social media quickly filled with mixed reactions, with a significant portion expressing disappointment and frustration over his political stance.
X user Jjingo Paul commented: “I do not support Bobi but during the late Kato Lubwama’s burial he called you beggars and you responded that with time we shall see who the fraud is. You insisted copyright was coming soon. I am here to remind you that this is what you should have done long ago.”
Another user, Emma Ssenyonga, wrote: “You have every right to support anyone, Ykee, but we cannot stand with someone who sides with our oppressor.”
Some comments took a more personal tone. Pius Zlatan posted: “Not surprised you made a big wedding this year. We now know the sponsor.”
Others defended the artiste, arguing that he is simply securing his future. Tobias remarked: “You are thinking ahead. Congratulations. I would also do the same if given the opportunity.”
However, some responses were openly emotional and hostile. Ivan Katende wrote: “How I wish you people suffer all your lives. The whole country is crying and you choose to stand with those who make us cry.”
Despite the growing criticism, Ykee Benda has not issued any public response. His involvement in the NRM campaign continues to spark debate among fans and critics alike.
