Musician Eddy Kenzo, who also serves as president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, has said the National Unity Platform (NUP) is rapidly losing popularity and needs to re-evaluate its direction if it hopes to regain national appeal.
Speaking during an interview, Kenzo argued that the party’s current trajectory shows signs of decline, adding that some of its most vocal online supporters are doing more harm than good.
“I would like to thank all the NUP foot soldiers for the great work they are doing,” he said. “But they should be very careful when attacking someone like me, because I am one of the founders. The fruits they are enjoying, we are the ones who planted them.”
Kenzo, who in recent years distanced himself from NUP and now openly supports the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), claimed he was part of the early efforts that strengthened NUP’s visibility and influence before it became a major opposition force.
He suggested that the party needs to seek advice from founders like himself to regain its momentum because they know what I did for them and can still do for them.
Kenzo’s comments have added fresh tension to the long-standing friction between the singer and NUP supporters, many of whom view his shift toward the NRM as a betrayal. But Kenzo insists his critics should respect his contributions and focus on rebuilding the party rather than tearing down those who played a role in its rise.
