December is finally here and true to tradition, there was no better way to usher in Uganda’s busiest part month than with another electric edition of The Big Meeting at Thrones Bar & Lounge.
Held on the last day of November, The Big Meeting once again lived up to its reputation as the city’s ultimate daytime social ritual. It is the place where people gather to celebrate their wins, toast to new beginnings, and step into the month ahead with intention and flair.
Despite Kampala being crowded with multiple events that same day, The Big Meeting proved unstoppable. Guests arrived dressed to impress, confidently strutting down the signature lime-blue carpet as though the moment itself depended on their presence.
A culture of takeover
At The Big Meeting, the headline acts are part of the excitement but the real magic lies in the culture of audience takeover. And as always, guests had the thrilling opportunity to step behind the bar and create their own bespoke cocktails inspired by The Singleton.
Over several editions, attendees have grown more experimental. This time, they went bolder than ever whipping up epic sours, tossing berries into their mixes, adding imaginative garnishes, infusing herbs, and pairing unexpected flavours that somehow worked beautifully.
Simon Lapyem, The Singleton Brand Manager, summed up the spirit of the activation:
“The Singleton is crafted for occasions where people come together to savour their wins, express themselves, and enjoy experiences that feel a little more special. That’s why we’re here to heighten these moments and make them unforgettable.”
Music that moves the crowd
Music has always been the heartbeat of The Big Meeting. From Maurice Kirya to Vinka in the previous edition, performers and DJs play a pivotal role in shaping the mood.
This month featured Kenyan sensation DJ Kym Nick Dee, whose reputation for shutting down major parties across East Africa preceded him. Kampala, however, was familiar territory and he wasted no time proving it. He opened his set with Dax Vibes and Elijah Kitaka’s Good Idea, signaling his deep understanding of Uganda’s sonic landscape.
Known for his infectious fusion of African electronic music and Afrobeats, DJ Kym Nick Dee kept the crowd on their feet from the first track to the last. Some guests even abandoned a live English Premier League match to join the dance floor.
A sonic journey, not just a set
The Big Meeting isn’t about background music, it’s a curated experience. DJs take guests on a journey, starting with laid-back soul grooves in the afternoon before gradually elevating the energy into upbeat Afro-house and long drum rhythms as the sun goes down.
By the time the night wrapped up, it was clear once again why The Big Meeting remains one of Kampala’s most resilient and beloved social traditions.
