The Royal Gospel Music Awards (RGMAs) are back, promising an unforgettable celebration of Ugandan gospel talent on Friday, December 12 at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
Now in their 4th edition, the awards were officially launched last Thursday at Imperial Royale Hotel, where organisers reaffirmed their mission to honour gospel artistes whose work often goes unacknowledged.
Speaking at the launch, Wesley Silver, commonly known as the King of Radio and CEO of Royal Gospel Music Company, said the awards were created to uplift artistes who keep the gospel music industry alive despite limited support.
“Gospel artistes are not paid, yet they continue producing good music,” he said. “After an artiste has made a beautiful song and invested money, time and energy, there should be something to show for their effort.”
This year’s ceremony will feature a state-of-the-art production and, for the first time, will be hosted by gospel artiste Levixone alongside media personality and actress Nicole Estella.
Unlike the previous editions that featured nominations from across Africa, this year’s awards are exclusively for Ugandan gospel artistes. A total of 53 categories will be contested, ranging from Song of the Year and Artist of the Year to Production House of the Year and Best Gospel DJ.
The RGMAs continue to grow as one of the major platforms spotlighting and celebrating gospel music excellence in Uganda. With rising stars, industry veterans and entire regions of the country represented on the nomination list, all eyes are now on the grand night in December when the winners will be crowned.
