Renowned events promoter Norbert Twezire, popularly known as Nobat Events, has been arrested following a wave of defamation complaints from some of Uganda’s biggest music stars.

Nobat is currently detained at Nateete Police Station after turning himself in to authorities earlier this week. According to police sources, he had initially requested a delay in responding to summons, claiming he was occupied with NRM campaign activities. Once he appeared to record his statement, officers moved swiftly to take him into custody.

Investigations revealed that Nobat is facing 12 separate complaints, most of them lodged by prominent names in the entertainment industry. Eddy Kenzo alone has filed eight cases, Jose Chameleone three, and singer Mariam Tindatine one.

The artistes accuse the promoter of defamation, verbal attacks, and spreading harmful falsehoods online and in public spaces. The claims have caused significant unrest among the entertainers, many of whom say their reputations and livelihoods have been damaged.

In Tindatine’s case, her complaint is specifically tied to remarks Nobat allegedly made about her personal character and conduct — comments she describes as defamatory and deeply offensive.

Police say investigations are ongoing as more individuals are expected to come forward.
