Singer and Mpaka Records CEO Ykee Benda is thanking God for a second chance at life after he was involved in a frightening car crash while heading for a performance in Kyegegwa District.
Ykee and his team were reportedly headed to a show where President Yoweri Museveni was expected to appear when their vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp corner, crashing into a roadside barricade.
The singer sustained injuries to his shoulder and left wrist, while another occupant hit his head and was rushed to hospital for first aid and scans.
Speaking to Spark TV in a phone interview, Ykee Benda recounted the terrifying moment:
“We were on our way to perform at the second show. We met a sharp corner in Kyegegwa. The car didn’t brake very well and we ended up knocking a barricade. I hit my head on the dashboard, and my left hand got a slight twist. We pray we get through it. My team is okay.”
Following the incident, the “Superman” hitmaker took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, posting “Ekisa Kyamukama” loosely translated as “God’s mercy” to express gratitude for surviving the crash.
Ykee Benda and his crew are expected to receive further medical assessment as they recover.
