Over the weekend, singer Kapa Cat sent shockwaves through her online community after revealing she had been a victim of drink spiking during a night out with friends.
Though she kept the finer details under wraps, she hinted that someone within her own circle may have orchestrated the ordeal.
The situation was far more serious than she initially imagined. Kapa Cat shared that she required hospitalization because her condition quickly turned severe and life-threatening.
Now on the road to recovery, she has chosen to turn her frightening experience into a public warning, raising awareness about the rising cases of spiking and urging women to stay alert.
Among the safety tips she shared, the first was simple but crucial: never leave your drink unattended. She advised holding your drink at all times or asking a trusted bartender to watch it if you must step away. Even a few seconds left on a table, she emphasized, is enough for someone to tamper with it.
Kapa Cat also encouraged women to embrace modern safety tools like drink covers, test strips, and color-changing coasters that detect common date rape drugs. Small, discreet, and easy to carry, she said these tools offer an added layer of protection in potentially unsafe environments.
She further reminded women to stay aware of their surroundings and the company they keep.
“Avoid accepting drinks from strangers, and if you’re out with friends, make it a habit to look out for one another. A watchful eye, she noted, can make all the difference and trusting your instincts is key. If something feels off, don’t hesitate to walk away.”
