Uganda’s political season is in full swing, and as always, entertainment and politics have found themselves dancing on the same stage. Many artists have already picked a side, some belting out slogans for the opposition, others drumming up support for the ruling party.
Pallaso, Fik Fameica, Roden Y Kabako, and King Saha are loud and proud at NUP events, while Bebe Cool, Chameleone, Gravity Omutujju, Eddy Kenzo, Catherine Kusasira, Stecia Mayanja, and Lil Pazo march confidently with NRM.
But while the battle lines tighten, singing duo Kataleya and Kandle are choosing a different rhythm which is neutrality. And they’re not shy about why.
Despite their catchy lyrics proclaiming their “love for money,” the pair say the nature of their brand simply doesn’t allow them to take sides. Their stage, they argue, is meant for everyone.
“We like Bobi Wine but our fans affiliate to all political parties and we can’t discriminate. You can’t choose to leave this or that one. We are neutral,” the duo explained in a recent interview.
In an industry where pressure often pushes artists into political corners, Kataleya & Kandle are choosing to stand in the middle, keeping the music playing for all their fans, no matter their colours.
