The High Court has set December 22 as the date to deliver its ruling in a petition challenging the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify musician and Busiro East MP aspirant Mathias Walukaga.
Justice Rogers Kinobe fixed the date after resolving preliminary issues related to service of court documents and timelines for filing responses by the parties involved.
Walukaga is challenging the Electoral Commission’s decision to block him from contesting for the Busiro East parliamentary seat over alleged lack of the required academic qualifications. He maintains that he was duly nominated and that his academic documents, including a Mature Age certificate equated by the National Council for Higher Education, were valid.
The Electoral Commission, however, argues that the certificate had expired by the time of nomination.

The court has ordered tight timelines for submissions, citing the urgency of electoral disputes, with the final ruling expected to determine whether Walukaga will be reinstated as a candidate or remain disqualified.
