Musician Alien Skin has explained his sudden absence from National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaign rallies, insisting he will only return if President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni personally reaches out to him.
At the start of the campaign period, Alien Skin was a regular performer at NRM rallies under Bebe Cool’s Unstoppable Movement. He notably appeared at the first major campaign event held in Kololo, before quietly disappearing from subsequent rallies, sparking speculation that financial disagreements or internal fallout were behind his exit.
Addressing the matter, Alien Skin dismissed claims of a fallout and instead framed his decision as one rooted in professionalism and self-worth.
“When people ask me why I am not on Museveni’s campaign trail, I ask them, ‘Is Museveni my boy?’” he said. “They say no. He is my boys’ boy, and that doesn’t make him my boy.”
The singer explained that while he supports the president, he does not see a reason to be actively involved unless his services are directly requested.
“I’m a musician with a skill. If they need my service, let the boss call me,” he said. “Otherwise, I don’t have anything to discuss with him. He is on my level unless I want to steal him.”
Alien Skin was also clear that he does not have a personal relationship with President Museveni and that the two have never interacted directly. According to him, recognition from someone of the president’s stature must be earned over time.
“Why do you want him to know me?” he asked. “Maybe I haven’t worked enough for him to recognise me. When that time comes, he will look for me.”
The singer further distanced himself from the use of intermediaries, saying he prefers direct engagement rather than relying on middlemen to speak on his behalf.
“Middlemen are not bad, but why should I send someone to talk to you?” he said. “If you need me, call me yourself.”
Alien Skin acknowledged that he is still growing in the industry and has not yet reached the level where international or political leaders can easily reach out to him directly.
“I haven’t done enough music for the president to call me like Akon,” he admitted. “That’s why I’m working hard so he sees me.”
Rumors had also circulated that the singer fell out with Bebe Cool after a few weeks on the campaign trail, particularly after Bebe Cool reportedly met the president without him. However, Alien Skin downplayed such claims, reiterating that his decision was personal and professional rather than driven by conflict.
For now, the singer says he remains focused on building his craft, confident that recognition, whether political or otherwise, will come when the work speaks loudly enough.
