Joshua Baraka may not have graced the main stage on the opening day of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but his presence was strongly felt at the Fanzone ahead of the opening ceremony.
The Ugandan singer delivered a spirited performance that resonated with fans, buoyed by the timely release of his song Morocco, which quickly became a crowd favourite as the tournament kicked off in the North African nation. The track’s energy and relevance made it feel tailor-made for the moment.
In a classic Ugandan social media move, a fan took the excitement a step further by tagging Moroccan-American rap star French Montana on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting a collaboration with Baraka. Surprisingly and encouragingly, the superstar noticed.
“@FrencHMonTanA Our own representing East Africa @itsJoshuaBaraka is also on ground. We want collabo for Morocco,” posted Desh Thor.
French Montana responded by retweeting the post, punctuating it with snowflake and fire emojis, a subtle but electrifying acknowledgment that sent fans into a frenzy.

Should the hinted collaboration materialize, it would mark the second time French Montana has worked with Ugandan talent. In 2017, he featured the Triplets Ghetto Kids in the globally successful hit Unforgettable, a song that has since amassed over 1.8 billion views on YouTube in eight years.
