A few weeks ago, opposition figure Bobi Wine set social media abuzz after stepping out at a campaign appearance wearing high-tech glasses fitted with what appeared to be a built-in camera.
The eyewear quickly became a talking point among supporters and critics alike, with speculation swirling around its functionality, brand and price.
The conversation took a new turn on Wednesday evening when singer Bebe Cool weighed in during a TikTok Live session, using the moment to make a pointed statement about originality and status.
Without mentioning any names, the Gagamel boss suggested that while some fans were recently bragging about “legit” smart glasses, he had owned authentic ones long before the current hype.
“I saw someone’s fans bragging about glasses recently,” Bebe Cool said as he lifted his eyewear to the camera. “I want you to see this brand,” he added, clearly displaying the Ray-Ban logo. “This has been in my house for two years now. I just wanted you to see it.”
Bebe Cool went on to say that he does not wear the glasses for show, insisting they are only used when necessary.
“I only put them on when there is a need, and you know exactly what they do,” he said, before delivering a sharp parting shot. “Take away your China products. This one is original.”
His remarks quickly sparked debate online, with some viewers interpreting them as lighthearted banter, while others saw a subtle jab tied to the long running rivalry between figures in the entertainment and political spaces.
As expected, social media reactions were split, fueling yet another viral moment at the intersection of celebrity, politics and public image.
