Ugandan rapper Rickman Manrick has publicly given credit to media personality Sheila Gashumba for playing a pivotal role in shaping his music journey, praising her guidance, belief, and behind-the-scenes influence during his formative years in the industry.
Speaking candidly, Rickman revealed that Sheila motivated him to push harder creatively and musically at a time when he was still finding his footing. He noted that she consistently affirmed his talent, not just as a musician, but as a creative with depth and intention.
“She did a lot for my music,” Rickman shared. “She took me to big stages like Blankets & Wine and Roast and Rhyme. She always told me I wasn’t just a talented musician, but a creative.”
For Rickman, performing at Blankets & Wine marked a defining moment in his career. Standing on such a prestigious stage, he said, reaffirmed his decision to prioritize authenticity over flashiness in his artistry.
He credited Sheila with ensuring he was prepared for those moments, from dressing the part to understanding how to carry himself as an artist. While she may not have directly lobbied event organizers on his behalf, Rickman believes the direction and exposure she offered made him visible and in demand.
“She made sure I reached those big stages. She tried, and she did her best,” he said, giver her, her flowers for the guidance and motivation.
Rickman was also clear about creative differences, acknowledging that every artist has their own personality and vision. He explained that while Sheila encouraged broader appeal, he personally aspired to be a “J. Cole kind of artist” — simple, grounded, and introspective rather than chasing flashy stardom.
“You can’t change someone unless they want to change,” he added. “But she did a wonderful job. The direction she put me in made me wanted and led me to these stages. There are big artists in Uganda who haven’t had such opportunities.”
Sheila Gashumba later reshared Rickman’s video on her social media, responding briefly but warmly: “Thank you for the kind words,” acknowledging the appreciation and closing the moment on a respectful note.

The exchange resonated with many online, especially given that Rickman and Sheila were once romantically involved. Their ability to publicly recognize each other’s contributions years after their breakup was widely praised as a rare display of maturity and growth in Uganda’s entertainment industry.
