For nearly a decade, Isaac Mulindwa stood tall among the power brokers of Uganda’s entertainment industry. He wasn’t the loudest musician on radio, nor was he the most celebrated producer, writer, or cinematographer. Yet somehow, Mulindwa’s influence loomed larger than many of the stars he helped elevate.
At the height of his reign, Mulindwa ran what was arguably East Africa’s most prestigious music accolade, the Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards). He owned Hot 100 FM, Uganda’s first youth radio station, which birthed and polished media personalities such as Byg Kahuna and Mckenzie. He also had a stake in the legendary Club Silk, a nightlife institution that defined Kampala’s party culture for years.
Beyond entertainment, Mulindwa ventured into business, founding Makinawa Motors Limited, an automobile dealership that further cemented his status as a serious player with diverse interests.
Then, almost abruptly, the curtain fell. With the PAM Awards fading into history, Hot 100 FM going silent, and Club Silk closing its doors, Mulindwa himself seemed to vanish from the public eye. His once-familiar presence in entertainment circles became rare, almost mythical until yesterday.
At President Museveni’s rally in Nansana, Mulindwa resurfaced in a way no one anticipated. Isaac Mulindwa Jr. once a titan of pop culture and nightlife, was seen holding an umbrella for Ministers Kiwanda and Kasolo for nearly an hour.
Within minutes, social media lit up with speculation, jokes, sympathy, and judgment. How does a man who once commanded boardrooms, red carpets, and dance floors end up on the sidelines, shielding politicians from the rain? What went wrong or perhaps, what path did he consciously choose?
Whether this moment represents a fall from grace, a humbling reinvention, or simply life’s unpredictable turns remains open to interpretation. But one thing is certain: seeing Isaac Mulindwa in that role forced many Ugandans to pause and reflect on the fleeting nature of influence, fame, and power.
