Dan Kazibwe, popularly known as Ragga Dee, may have taken a step back from Uganda’s movie scene, but his influence in the creative industry remains unmistakable. The veteran artist has been entrusted with a new leadership role after being sworn in as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Uganda Federation of Movie Industry (UFMI).
Ragga Dee was sworn in alongside other board members at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) offices, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen collective rights management within Uganda’s film industry.
The inauguration of the new Board signals UFMI’s renewed commitment to professional leadership, transparency, and the protection and monetisation of filmmakers’ rights, longstanding challenges within the sector.
He will be deputised by celebrated actor and filmmaker Mathew Nabwiso, while Eunice Akidi takes on the role of Board Secretary.
As part of its inaugural mandate, the Board constituted key standing committees designed to enhance governance, accountability, and stakeholder engagement across the industry. Joseph Osako, CPA, was appointed chairperson of the Technical and Finance Committee, while the Audit and Risk Committee will be led by Stephen Mucerule, CPA. Yusuf Kinene (P.G.U) will head the Members Affairs and International Relations Committee.
The developments align UFMI’s operations with national regulatory frameworks and international best practices, positioning the Federation as a stronger and more credible advocate for Uganda’s film practitioners.
This milestone represents a renewed step forward for UFMI as it seeks to safeguard filmmakers’ interests and reinforce the institutional foundation of Uganda’s growing movie industry.
