Ugandan singer Azawi turned heads over the weekend after sharing bikini photos on her Snapchat account, giving fans a rare glimpse of a side of her she usually keeps away from the public eye.

Currently out of the country, the Slow Dancing hitmaker surprised many by showing off her beautifully toned body, a departure from her usual style that rarely involves showing much skin. The photos quickly sparked conversations online, with netizens flooding social media with reactions.

While many praised her stunning physique and confidence, others questioned why the singer had chosen to bare more skin than she is known for. Some, however, skipped the commentary altogether and went straight into her direct messages.

The attention, Azawi later revealed, quickly became overwhelming.

“With the freaky ass stuff I’ve read today, sidamu,” the singer wrote on her Snapchat on Sunday, making it clear that the messages she received were enough to make her rethink sharing similar content again.

Azawi’s reaction sparked yet another conversation online about celebrity boundaries, online behaviour and how female artistes are often scrutinised for personal choices that would otherwise go unnoticed.
